up in the tri-state area. cecily tynan is live at the big board. what about dangerous winds and damaging hail. >> they are scattered storm and any storm has the potential of wind gusts of 60 miles per hour and small hail, double scan live radar is showing we have a peppering of storms coming up and some are severe. the national weather posted a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of chester county into delaware county and even clipping southern montgomery county through ardmore and chester and coatesville, this is until 6:30 tonight, because this cell has been producing some hail, deb posted a picture -- actually video of hail through honey brook. this is moving to the east at 40 miles per hour. crossing route 100 and 34 lightning strikes in this view alone. but it's beginning to weaken as it moves through. but you wants to get the kids inside and off the plea ground and we have another severe

presidential primary, voters are telling "action news" it was particularly important for them this year to have their vote counts. >> i didn't want to be one of those armchair members. >> you see the stuff on news that says this person is a lockin and this person is going to win and you want to come in and make sure you have a say in that. >> lets begin with the democrats now. britney spears visited the redding terminal market in philadelphia international airport when asked about what is expected a win in hillary clinton, and said he would stay in the race until california and then quote, we'll see what happens. that is contrary to the words of sander's senior adviser, saying that a bad day today would prompt a reassessment of the campaign.

pat toomey. john sestak, katie mcginty and businessman joe bavarka. sestak is a former navy admiral that came within 2 percentage points of beating toomey in 2010. despite that sestak has alien e alienated himself. enter katie mcginty, she has not been elected to public office but ran against tom wolf who later pointed her as his chief of staff. the democrat party all but recruited mcginty to run and pours millions into her campaign. supporters don't get it. >> he has good name recognition and has widespread support, it puzzles me why the democratic party would leave a good viable candidate when we need a strong candidate in november. >> but the mcginty supporters

coverage, we'll have live resultses as they come in on 6abc.com and the 6 abc news app and a recap of all the big races and reaction from the candidates tonight on "action news" at 11:00. other news at this hour. one day after an appeals court rejected bill cosby's effortses to stop his criminal case a preliminary hearing is set. the hearing is scheduled for may 24th in morristown. former temple university employee, andrea constand says she was drugged and sexually assaulted at cosby's home in 2004. cosby remains free on $1 million bail. a man is in critical condition tonight after being shot by his father in the may fair section of philadelphia. the incident happened at 1:00 this afternoon in the 2200 block of princeton avenue, the two got into an argument when they were in the car. they pulled over and that is when the shooting happened.

they honored some hard working red cross volunteers in philadelphia this morning. mayor jim kenney stopped by the red cross house since it opened in 2003. the red cross house helped 43,000 families get back on their feet after fires and other disasters. mayor kenney presented the organization with a city proclamation and thanked the volunteers for their work in the community. this is new at 6:00 tonight, and this is a day for congratulations for nine letter carriers for the fox chase section of philadelphia. katherine scott explains why -- >> reporter: letter carriers loaded up for another day of work in fox chase. but today some of them had a little extra to carry [ applause ] nine members of the station of the 700 block of rising sun

we are dealing with a broken line of storms. how long do they last? >> a few hours and then they should be off the coast. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing it is definitely stormy, just west of philadelphia and in fact the national weather service post aid severe thunderstorm warning for east central chester county and a large section of delaware county and south central montgomery

county until 6:30, these storms could have wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and they have a history of some small hail. so double scan live radar showing that it is a pretty solid area of storms, but the most intense is moving towards the south-southeast at 40 miles per hour. so north philadelphia will be rolling through there by 6:35 and hitting center city at 6:36 and camden by 6:40 and gloucester city by 6:41, and this is all with a cold front moving through and the storms hit quickly and this is a great photo katherine posted on my facebook page, you see the clouds and it clears out quickly if you look right there, you can see the rain bro, a lot of rainbow photos and hail with these systems. it was hot today, 86 in philadelphia, 18 degrees above average, not a record though.

the record high is 93 and when you get the warmth that can add fuel to the storms. philadelphia a rain cooled 71 degrees but millville warm and 84 and wilmington and dover 84 degrees and that cold front pressing through will bring us cooler air tomorrow. satellite 6 along with action radar showing that broken line of storms and that box, that yellow is that severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9:00. there is a much bigger storm system brewing across the plain states and we have tornado watches posted from texas to nebraska. and unfortunately it looks like this could be a widespread outbreak of tornadoes tonight and that low pressure will move through here and by then a much weakened state. by tomorrow the front is stalling to the south, sunshine north of philadelphia and clouds to the south and lingering showers south of philadelphia, the high of 66 and much cooler than today. on thursday, the low pressure is currently in the plains will

meander here and that brings us rain and looks to hold off until afternoon and evening. a quarter to half inch, so a pretty good soaking than low pressure will linger on friday and friday is looking pretty cloudy and damp. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, tomorrow it's all about location. sunshine north of philadelphia and clouds to the south perhaps with lingering showers, a high of 66, and thursday the rain is moving in by afternoon and evening hours and friday looks dreary and mostly cloudy and 61 degrees but the nice thing a bubble of high pressure moves in for the weekend and 68 degrees and great weather for the union game. and on sunday it should be dry for the broad street run with temperatures in the low 50s for the morning and 68 degrees by the afternoon and rain moving in sunday night and monday and tuesday much needed rain on the way and very unsettled. 67 degrees and i'll have the
